When & where is the Ducky Derby Race?

This year, due to the shigella outbreak in our city parks, the 24th annual Ducky Derby race will be virtual on April 27th, at 1pm.

How do my ducks get in the water?

Once you have “adopted” a duck, your duck will race to the finish line against other ducks!

How does it work?

Everyone who adopts a duck, whether through an Omega Nu member, completing an adoption form, or as a sponsoring business, is assigned a tag for each virtual duck. Each name is assigned an adoption number (usually found on an adoption form), and also tag numbers for each duck you adopt. So if you adopt 5 ducks, you will have 5 tag numbers. Before race time, we will use our random number selector and select winners for each race heat.

What is my tag number?

Tag numbers are assigned randomly. We want to make sure that no duck is taking steroids and the race is not fixed, so to ensure the integrity of the race, tag numbers are never given out. Rest assured, however, that all of the ducks you have adopted will be in the virtual water.

How will I know if my duck wins?

An Omega Nu member will contact you using the information you provided with your duck adoption.

Are they real ducks or rubber ducks?

Rubber ducks! Although real ducks are encouraged to participate for fun.

Who can adopt a duck?

Anyone!

Once I adopt a duck, do I get to keep it?

No. After you adopt your duck, Omega Nu will work hard to train, coach, and make sure each one is ready for race day. After the Ducky Derby Race, all of the ducks will fly off to their next race somewhere in the U.S.

Do I need to be present to win?

No, winners do not need to be present to win. We do hope you will join us for the festivities though by logging in at 3pm on game day!

Is my duck adoption tax deductible?

Duck adoptions are not eligible for tax deduction. Please consult with your tax adviser. If you would like to donate to Omega Nu and NOT receive any entries into the Ducky Derby Race, click here.

Is there an admission fee to attend Ducky Derby?

Nope! When we have in-person carnivals, you can come for free to see your duck race to the finish line! If you want to purchase carnival game tickets or food, they would be available to purchase at the event.

Can I adopt ducks on Duck Race Day?

We have a maximum number of ducks available for adoption and we will continue to adopt ducks until we run out. For our virtual race, all ducks purchased after we have run our number generator program (on Friday) will not be entered in the race, and will be considered a donation.
